Kanye West “Heartless”

Kanye West‘s new single “Heartless” was recently released via his blog and it’s undeniable radio presence can be felt on every station- pop & hip-hop alike. This single is in heavy R.O. in my iTunes and I can’t help but to love it. While “Love Lockdown” was straddling the fence, leaning a little more to the NO side (and his closing performance at this years VMA’s left a lot to be desired), I thought eventually it would grow on me but it failed to do so. “Heartless” definitely brought me back on the ban wagon and I am waiting at the edge of my seat for 808’s & Heartbreak [in which he is singing through out the whole thing!] to drop. But don’t start bopping too hard to the bass and singing along to the auto-tune, strip back the beat and let the lyrics marinate.
In the night, I hear ’em talk/The coldest story ever told
Somewhere far along this road/he lost his soul
To a woman so heartless…. How could you be so heartless?
This album is a lot more dark and gloomy than his previous albums, with a lonely, heart broken vibe. Kanye even went as far as dropping his signature mascot (the Teddy Bear) and going with deflated heart shaped balloons, resulting in us reluctantly being dragged into his dark and lonely world watching him at his wit’s end and wondering if he’s going off the deep end. Nonetheless, this single get’s 2 thumbs up from me.
5 of 5 stars.
