A woman from Sydney, Australia with less than two months to live has been awarded more than $400,000 after doctors failed to properly diagnose a breast “mass” as cancerous, the Australian Associated Press reported Wednesday.

The New South Wales Supreme Court ordered Sydney South West Area Health Service to pay Christine O’Gorman, 57, $405,990 in damages and costs she incurred as a result of misdiagnoses she received in 2002 and 2004.

O’Gorman’s cancer is considered fatal and she is not expected to live beyond the end of the year, according to the report.

According to her lawsuit, O’Gorman underwent routine mammograms every two years beginning in 1994. The tests detected a mass in her left breast in 2002 and 2004, but doctors said the lump had no suspicious features and had not increased in size between screenings.

But in January 2007, O’Gorman noticed the mass had grown significantly in size. She underwent chemotherapy and a mastectomy in the summer of 2007, but by then the cancer had spread to her lungs. In June of this year, doctors determined the cancer had also spread to her brain.
